Arch. Jaime Grinberg

DIRECTOR
Arch. Jaime Grinberg is Director of the Grinberg–Dwek–Iglesias Studio. An architect from UBA and Master of Architecture from Columbia University (NY), he brings together professional practice, competitions, and academic production, along with extensive teaching work at FADU-UBA. His career includes a special interest in research, housing, and design processes.

Origins, education, and international outlook

Born in Buenos Aires in 1954. He is an architect from UBA (1975).

He worked in social housing research at the Eduardo Torroja Institute, Madrid, with Arch. John Habraken, S.A.R., Eindhoven, the Netherlands, and in the Municipality of Bologna.

He worked at the I. Goodovich studio in Tel Aviv, Ricardo Bofill in Barcelona, KPF in New York, and Zaha Hadid in London.

In 1987 he obtained the Master of Architecture degree at Columbia University, NY, where he studied with Professor Kenneth Frampton.

In Argentina, he has worked on national and international competitions with Mario Roberto Alvarez, Clorindo Testa, Berardo Dujovne, Alberto Varas, Jorge Goldenberg, and Javier Sánchez Gomez.

Teaching, leadership, and academic outreach

At UBA he has been Associate Professor of Architecture I to V, Grinberg Studio, since 2001, and Full Professor of Architecture and Model-Making since 1988.

He founded and directs the Model Museum at FADU, designated as a city museum, which takes part annually in La Noche de los Museos.

He has served as Academic Secretary of FADU, Founder and Director of Continuing Professional Education Courses (CAP) at FADU, and Vice President of CPAU.

At Universidad Di Tella he organized the course and the construction of John Hejduk’s The Mask of Medusa (Cooper Union, NY).

He has led exchange trips with his students to São Paulo, with the presence of Paulo Mendes da Rocha, and traveled to Germany on a DAAD scholarship with 14 students, visiting the University of Dortmund, Düsseldorf, TU Berlin, and DIA, Bauhaus in Dessau.

Lectures, projects, and publications

He has given lectures at Dortmund University, Universidad San Buenaventura (Cali, Colombia), Columbia University, and the Torroja Institute (Madrid). He also took part in international conferences in Recife, João Pessoa, and Piauí, was an invited speaker at the University of Mar del Plata, and served as co-curator of the Argentine exhibition at the 2004 Venice Biennale.

He was director of the User-Participation Housing project for the Municipal Housing Commission (1981–1984), as well as director of the Western Green Corridor project.

He has published the novels The End of Innocence and Discovering Nancy, and the books 480 Studies of Space and Grinberg Chair: 10 Years of Architectures.
